Hi there, Ameera here!
Oh my goodness, this Berry Fruit Salsa is da bomb! We loved it with our homemade Baked Cinnamon Chips, and we devoured it all in no time flat.
Not to be confused with a savory salsa with sweet fruit is incorporated, which could contain onions, cilantro, jalapeños, etc. This Berry Fruit Salsa is all sweet and dessert-like.
Happy to note that Yasmeen keep saying “more, more, more.” The chips alone are addictive and that little hint of sweetness coupled with cinnamon is so tasty.
You gotta give this one a try!
Tips for Success:
- Flavor: This is a dessert salsa. The berry flavors shine with some additional hints of sweetness from the raspberry preserves. The cinnamon and vanilla give extra dimension and flavor. Not to be confused with a savory salsa with sweet fruit is incorporated, which could contain onions, cilantro, jalapeños, etc.
- Fresh Fruit: We understand that fresh fruit is a delicious all by itself and does not need anything special to enhance the flavor; however, this dessert salsa is a recipe with ingredients intended to enhance the depth of flavor.
- Berries: You can pretty much use just about any berries you wish in any combination, do not exceed 4 cups. You want to keep the size small and uniform. For larger blackberries and raspberries, you may wish to cut into 4ths. Select berries that are firm and sweet. Do not use mushy overripe berries.
- Red Raspberry Preserves/Jam/Fruit Spread: Select a seedless red raspberry fruit spread. If you can’t locate a seedless one, then simply strain out the seeds by using a fine mesh strainer. We used St Dalfour Red Raspberry Fruit Spread made with 100% fruit. It has seeds. We scooped some preserves into a fine mesh strainer and pressed it over a bowl until we had ¼ cup. St Dalfour is Whole Food Plant Based.
- Almond Flour Tortillas: We used Siete Almond Flour Tortillas as they have an almost pastry like quality. You can typically find them in most health food stores and large grocery stores. Additionally, Siete has a ‘store finder’ on their website. You can find them in either the refrigerator or frozen foods section. Feel free to use your favorite 6-inch tortillas with the understanding that the texture and flavor will be influenced accordingly.
- Baking the Tortilla Chips: When preparing the tortilla chips, make sure they do not overlap on the baking sheet, or they will stick together (maple syrup). We used two 14×20 baking sheets.
- Baking Time of the Tortilla Chips: Every tortilla brand is different. Watch the tortillas closely while baking to avoid burning.
- Cinnamon: Not all cinnamon is created equal. Some brands of cinnamon are light and passively flavored while others are strong and sharp. Use judgement on how much to sprinkle on the baked tortilla chips at the end.
- Make Ahead: The cinnamon tortilla chips can be made the day before or earlier in the day. For best results, make the fruit salsa right before serving as fruit tends to macerate after being cut and will release fruit juices resulting in a potentially soupy salsa.
- Additional Serving Options: It is delicious over oatmeal, parfaits, pancakes, ice cream, and so much more!
Leftovers and Freezing:
Leftovers will generally keep for 2 to 3 days in the refrigerator. Store in a covered container.
This salsa cannot be frozen.
