Benefits of Hummus
Do you know what else is awesome about hummus? There are so many health benefits, the chickpeas are high in iron, folate, phosphorus, and B vitamins. The lemon juice used contains vitamin C and antioxidants.
- Chickpeas are high in protein!
- Chickpeas have been shown to help balance cholesterol levels.
- Hummus has garlic which is known to be an anti-inflammatory food.
- Chickpeas are an excellent source of fiber which fosters a healthy digestive system.
Got Hummus?
Seriously, got hummus? As I am always looking in the fridge for hummus. Whenever we start to get low, I am like “Mom, remind me to make hummus, we are low!”
Robin here!
It’s no secret, I am always telling you, our readers, how much Monkey and I love hummus, but I recently found out that not everyone loves hummus. *gasp* Can this be true?
I had never heard of anyone not liking hummus. Besides Michael, of course, which still blows my mind, but Mikey hates everything, so he doesn’t count. LOL
“Annie”
One day I was sitting at my desk at work and my friend, “Annie” (not her real name) came over to let me know that she was still working on a project and that she would send me some information that I was looking for. She saw that I was eating “something” and inquired. I told her that I was eating hummus.
Her face was priceless, complete and utter disgust came across her face! She looked like she was gonna hurl right then and there. I was wondering if I should offer her my trash can. LOL She was like “Ewwwww, I hate hummus!” I was like “Say whaaaat? You hate hummus? How can this be?”
“Annie” went on to tell me that when she first tried hummus that it was just so disgusting, the flavor, texture, everything about it, she just hated it. Poor Lassie, I feel bad for her because I find it absolutely delicious. I could eat it 24/7.
I say all of this because evidently there are a few poor souls out there in the world who do not enjoy hummus by the bucket load like we do. And when I say “bucket” that is only a slight exaggeration, more like gallons. HAH!
If you love beets, then you are gonna do a happy dance over this delicious beet flavored hummus.

Description
This creamy and vibrantly pink Beet Hummus is perfectly accented with the delicious flavor of earthy beets. The velvety texture is fantastic, making it a delicious Whole Food Plant Based dip for your favorite veggies and WFPB crackers. Vegan, oil free, gluten free, refined sugar free, no highly processed ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups Hummus (of choice or you can use our hummus recipe)– see recipe here
- ½ [ 14.5 oz. can ] small beets or 2 small roasted beets
- 1/8 teaspoon cumin
- 1/8 teaspoon sweet paprika
- Water, only if needed to create a smooth consistency
Optional Topping
- Beets – tiny dice for topping
Instructions
- Add the already prepared original hummus, beets, paprika, and cumin to a food processor. Pulse several times, then puree until smooth, approx. 3 to 4 minutes.
- Test the flavors, add more seasonings (and more beets) if desired, and pulse again.
- In order to create a very smooth and creamy hummus, you may need to add a little water. Once you have pureed the hummus, check the consistency, add a tablespoon of water a little at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
- Enjoy!
Notes
*Beets: This is a beautiful hummus. The intensity of the beet flavor will largely depend upon how many beets you use. You can increase the beet flavor by adding more beets. If you are unsure of how “beety” you would like your hummus, then start with a few beets, taste test the flavor and work from there.
Storage: Store in the fridge, and eat within one week. (If it’s not gone within a week, you’re doing it wrong – LOL!)
