Hi there, Ameera here!
This week’s Whip It Up Wednesday is our Oil Free Creamy Garlic Dressing. We are a garlic-loving family! We put garlic in just about everything. In this dressing, we used a combination of raw garlic and garlic powder rather than all raw garlic to ensure a smooth garlic-loving experience.
Raw Garlic
Raw garlic is great for you; however, sometimes it can have a sharp bite to it. We wanted to make sure we tempered the bite by combining it with some garlic powder.
Garlic powder has a mellow garlic flavor so it paired well with raw garlic ensuring a pleasant and well-rounded garlic flavor.
Flavor Trio
If you have made any of our recipes, you may see a consistent theme in our recipes.
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- dried minced onions.
This flavor trio adds a lot of flavor, but it also does an excellent job of balancing flavors. Since we do not use oil in our recipes, sometimes recipes need a balancer to counteract acidity – especially in more acidic recipes like a dressing. This terrific trio of flavors does the trick nicely.
We did not use dried minced onions in this recipe – total shocker, I know. However, we found we simply didn’t need it, but it is definitely a favorite in our spice cupboard.
If you are not familiar with dried minced onions, we highly recommend them. They make a huge difference in flavor balancing.

Let’s talk about this recipe. First thought as it hit my mouth, it’s too much garlic, BUT after literally one second, as it moved across my tongue, every single ingredient hit a different spot and it’s an unbelievable explosion of THE MOST DELICIOUS flavor!! Not too much garlic at all. It’s perfect. Thank you for this recipe. Where’s my spoon?

Just made this. Good flavor but mine is really thick. Is it supposed to be like that? Any suggestions for thinning it a bit?
Hi there Mary Beth 🙂
We are so glad that you enjoyed the flavor of this dressing. Hmmm, not sure why it ended up really thick. You can kind of see the consistency of the dressing over the salad images. Its creamy, but not overly thick. Did you make any adjustments/substitutions? You can thin it out with some water if needed.
-Ameera and Robin 🙂
Your tahini was probably too thick.
This is delish!! Hope you dont mind subsitutions. I loved the flavor but it was a bit strong for me. I am also trying to lose weight and limit my fat right now. So I added about 3/4 cup chickpeas and 1/2 of water and blended it up. Perfect flavor still and will last a little longer. Just disovered your blog and already sebt me mom and friends a few recipes. While my mama is cooking WFPB for us, which we are grateful for, she hasnt started eating it herself yet. I look forward to reading about your familys transition… Read more »
