In the veggie bowl above, we used a bed of mixed greens and added avocado, spiralized daikon radishes and carrots, some garden radishes, cucumbers and some steamed forbidden rice. Deeeelicious!

Ingredients
- ½ cup red wine vinegar
- 3 Tablespoons organic maple syrup
- 2 Tablespoons white miso *
- 3 Tablespoons tahini
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried minced onions
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt (+/-) *
- 1 Tablespoon water
Instructions
- Add all the Sweet and Tangy Dressing Ingredients into a bowl and whisk until well combined, or use a high-speed blender to emulsify. (See notes)
Notes
*Miso: We used Miso Master Organic Mellow White Premium Lite Miso, Certified Gluten Free. Miso really lends itself to balancing flavors when you don’t use oil. You can also substitute with chickpea miso for a soy free version.
*Sea Salt: Please adjust the sea salt based upon your family’s sea salt preferences and/or based upon dietary needs.
*Whisk or High-Speed Blender: Using a whisk will incorporate the dressing ingredients, but you will have to whisk for approx. 3 to 4 minutes, checking repeatedly to ensure that the miso has dissolved into the dressing. Or you can add the ingredients into a mini-chop, food processor, or high-speed blender to emulsify.
*Serving: Makes approximately 1 cup of dressing (about 8 servings.)
*Storage: Refrigerate and use within 5 days.

I had no idea what the combination of these ingredients would taste like, but i am so happy I was adventurous enough to try them! The dressing is wonderful! I didn’t care for it on its own, but on the salad, a totally different story! Thank you so much!

What can I substitute for red wine vinegar? Would Apple cider vinegar work?
Hi there Rachel 🙂
Yes, you can use apple cider vinegar instead of red wine vinegar. We haven’t tried it will apple cider vinegar. We think it will work, but will just have a slightly different flavor nuance. We’d love to know how it goes <3

I’ve been eating WFPB/Vegan for about 5 months now. I’ve tried several dressings using cashews, or other ingredients, always feeling it was a waste of food because they tasted so bad. This one was not that way. So deliciious! I don’t eat many salads because I couldn’t find a good dressing but this one will go not only on salads but roasted veggies, beans, and much more! Thank you! Love your site, love your recipes!
Hi there Cyndi 🙂
We are sorry to hear you hadn’t had much success with wfpb dressings. It can be very challenging when omitting the oil. But we are soooo thrilled to hear that you enjoyed Our Sweet and Tangy Dressing! It’s definitely a regular in our home. We truly appreciate your generous and kind feedback. Thank you so much! <3

This recipe does not list any vegetable broth, yet you talk about it in your notes. It says it should make one cup, but only a half cup of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of water are listed. Does this mean that I should add a half cup of vegetable broth? Thanks!
Hi there Carol 🙂
Thank you so much for reaching out to us! Oops, we are so sorry for the confusion; we’ve adjusted the recipe to remove the vegetable broth notes as vegetable broth is not a part of this recipe. Thank you so much!

We have nut allergies, so it’s been a real challenge to find creamy, healthy dressings that we enjoy. I just stumbled upon your site a couple weeks ago, and it’s a game changer for us! I made this sweet and tangy dressing using white balsamic vinegar (instead of red wine vinegar) – and I LOVE it. My husband really likes the oil-free catalina. And we had nachos last night with your nacho cheese sauce! and it’s the best nut-free whole food plant based cheese sauce I’ve tried yet (and I’ve tried quite a few). Thank you Ameera and Robin!
Hi there Danielle 🙂

I really really liked this! And a little goes a long way – which is a good thing for me – I am not a fan of constantly having to make salad dressings. I’m excited to make this again next week!
