Hi there, Ameera here!
Mom and I were all about creating delicious popsicles for summer enjoyment. Enjoy the extra burst of strawberry flavor by adding freeze-dried strawberries. We have a line-up of whole food plant based popsicles coming your way!
You gotta give this one a try!
Tips for Success:
- Flavor: This strawberry freezer treat is healthy and delicious. The freeze-dried strawberries boost the strawberry flavor.
- Healthy Popsicle: If you are looking for popsicles that taste like a traditional popsicle then perhaps pass on this recipe. Those popsicles are made with high fructose corn syrup and are full of artificial flavors and often times, dyes. These homemade popsicles are made from real fruit and use maple syrup as a sweetener.
- Sweetness: These popsicles are very lightly sweet. You can easily increase the sweetness by adding more maple syrup.
- Sweeteners: We used pure maple syrup; however, you can substitute with your favorite sweetener with the understanding that the flavor and/or texture may be impacted accordingly.
- Fresh Fruit: You can stir in freshly cut pieces of strawberries into the mixture right before freezing if you wish.
- Berries: You can pretty much use just about any berries you wish, matching with same freeze-dried berry package or complimentary fresh fruit.
- Measurement of Freeze-Dried Strawberries: The 1.2 oz. package measures out to be approximately 1 ½ cups of freeze-dried strawberries.
- Freeze-Dried Strawberries: The freeze-dried strawberries really boost the strawberry flavor. You can leave them out if you have especially flavorful ripe strawberries. We feel that they complete the dessert perfectly. Additionally, if you leave them out, you will end up with less popsicles (which is totally fine).
- Yasmeen’s Favorite: Follow recipe as is; however, increase maple syrup to ¼ cup.
- Number of Popsicles: The number of popsicles that this recipe makes is directly proportional to the molds used. Popsicle molds come in all different sizes and shapes. This is our favorite popsicle mold. We also filled them to nearly the top of the mold.
- Smoothy Alternative: If you are looking for a Strawberry Smoothy, simply pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and place into the freezer for two hours. Once the mixture is frozen, place in a high-speed blender, then blend on high until smooth. Serve.
- Sorbet-Like Alternative: If you are looking for a “sorbet-like” dessert. You can follow the instructions for making the Smoothy Alternative above, then place the Smoothy mixture into a freezer container, place in the freezer for several hours just until almost completely frozen, stir and enjoy.
- In a Hurry Removal: Loosen the popsicles from the mold by tugging on the individual sides of the popsicle mold (if silicon) on all sides to loosen, then gently place a blunt-ended knife down the sides to loosen. This only works on silicon molds.
Leftovers and Freezing:
Keep treats frozen up to 3 months.
Pantry Products:
- Freeze-Dried Strawberries: We used one 1.2 oz (34g) package of Natierra Nature Earth Organic Freeze-Dried Strawberries. Feel free to use your favorite freeze-dried strawberries.
Kitchen Equipment:
- High speed blender (or food processor)
- Popsicle mold
- Popsicle sticks
