Hi there, Ameera here!
Oh my goodness, we absolutely adored this salad dressing! Packed with an explosion of flavors, this recipe is as delicious as it is easy to whip up. Seriously, if you’re looking for a dressing that will make your taste buds do a happy dance, you’ve got to give this one a try!
Tips for Success:
- Flavor Profile: This Oil Free Vegan Cheesy Dijon Dressing is a quick and easy dressing to make infused with Dijon mustard and cheesy flavors with hints of thyme. The tamari gives it a very slight Asian flair.
- Almond Flour: Almond flour is an usual ingredient for a salad dressing; however, we had originally started the recipe with blanched almond slivers which worked great. In order to achieve the same result, without the fuss of a high-speed blender, we just skipped to the end by using almond flour and therefore did not need to use our high-speed blender to soak and process the nuts. Don’t skip the 10 minutes of refrigeration to allow the almond flour to further dissolve and allow the thyme to infuse the dressing.
- Water: Initially start with ¼ cup of water, then add the additional tablespoons (2) of water to achieve the desired thickness of dressing. We found 2 additional tablespoons worked perfectly; however, others may wish for a thicker (or thinner) dressing.
- Dried Crushed Thyme Leaves: If you can’t find dried crushed thyme leaves, you can use ground thyme but use half the amount. The thyme is subtle, feel free to add more if you wish. You can also leave the thyme out if you wish or substitute for your favorite herbs.
- Table Salt: If using table salt, you should use less table salt than the amount listed in the ingredients as sea salt crystals are larger than table salt crystals. Since table salt crystals are very fine, less table salt is required to season a dish. We would suggest starting with about 1/4 to 1/2 the amount of sea salt listed. You can always add more salt but cannot take it away. We recommend using sea salt as it is less refined than table salt.
Leftovers and Freezing:
Leftovers will generally keep 5 to 7 days in the refrigerator. Store in a covered container.
This salad dressing can be frozen. For best results, refrigerate.
Pantry Products:
- Tamari: We used San J Tamari Soy Sauce, Gluten Free, Reduced Sodium. You can substitute the tamari with reduced sodium soy sauce, Braggs Liquid Aminos, or Braggs Coconut Liquid Aminos. We recommend using reduced-sodium products.
- Dijon Mustard: We used Koops Dijon Mustard. Feel free to use your favorite Dijon mustard.
- Sea Salt: Please adjust the sea salt based upon your family’s sea salt preferences and/or based upon dietary needs.
Kitchen Equipment:
- Whisk (or fork)
