Tips for Success:
- Flavor Profile: These Healthy Almond Joy Bliss Balls are a healthy Whole Food Plant Based nod to an Almond Joy candy bar. Full of coconutty deliciousness with a burst of almond goodness, these bliss balls are out of this world delicious! They are the perfect pick-me-up to help you power through until your next meal. Perfect as a snack or treat.
- Chocolate/Tahini: The tahini is not detectable in the melted chocolate. The tahini simply creates a runnier chocolate which helps with dipping or swirling.
- Don’t Want to Mess with Melted Chocolate? If you don’t want to mess with melting chocolate, then just add a handful of mini chocolate chips to the mixture. Mix the mini chocolate chips by hand, do not use a food processor.
- Serving: We think these tasty treats are best served when taking the desired amount for consumption from the freezer or refrigerator and allowing to come to room temperature right before eating.
- Table Salt: If using table salt, you should use less table salt than the amount listed in the
ingredients as sea salt crystals are larger than table salt crystals. Since table salt crystals are very fine, less table salt is required to season a dish. We would suggest starting with about 1/4 to 1/2 the amount of sea salt listed. You can always add more salt but cannot take it away. We recommend using sea salt as it is less refined than table salt.
Leftovers and Freezing:
Leftovers will generally keep 10 days in the refrigerator. Store in a covered air-tight container.
These bliss balls freeze well.
Pantry Products:
- Rolled Oats: Use gluten free whole grain rolled oats, not instant oats. We used Bob’s Red Mill Organic Rolled Oats (Whole Grain), Gluten Free.
- Unsweetened Coconut Flakes: We used Bob’s Red Mill Unsweetened Coconut Flakes (Unsulfured). Feel free to use your favorite unsweetened coconut flakes.
- Sea Salt: Please adjust the sea salt based upon your family’s sea salt preferences and/or based upon dietary needs.
Kitchen Equipment:
- Food processor
- Small (1 Tablespoon) cookie scoop (optional)

Healthy Almond Joy Bliss Balls
- Prep Time: 15 Minutes
- Total Time: 15 Minutes (+Rest Time)
- Yield: 19 to 21 bliss balls 1x
- Category: Dessert
- Diet: Vegan
Description
These Healthy Almond Joy Bliss Balls are a nourishing nod to the classic Almond Joy candy bar, reimagined as a Whole Food Plant Based delight.
Ingredients
Food Processor Ingredients:
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1 ½ cups unsweetened coconut flakes *
- ½ cup rolled oats *Â
Additional Ingredients:
- ¼ cup + 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup *
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt *
Optional Swirled Topping or Coating:
- ½ cup to 1 cup chocolate chips
- ¼ teaspoon tahini (optional)
- Sprinkle flakey sea salt (optional)
Instructions
- Place the all the Food Processor Ingredients into a food processor and pulse on and off until broken down, about 30 seconds.
- Add all the Additional Ingredients into the food processor, pulse off and on until the mixture sticks together, about 30 to 45 seconds.
- Test for stickiness by scoping up a tablespoon of the mixture and pressing it into a small ball by rolling it in the palm of your hands into a ball. If everything sticks together well, then you are good to go. If the mixture does not stick together, simply stir in ½ teaspoon more maple syrup and pulse, repeat until the mixture forms a cohesive ball. If too gooey, add 1 teaspoon of almond flour, and pulse, repeat until the mixture forms a cohesive, firm ball.
- Scoop up 1 tablespoon (or a small cookie scoop) of the mixture, roll and firmly press into a firm ball in the palms of your hands, and then set on a plate. Repeat until all the mixture has been rolled into smooth, firm balls.
- Place the plate of balls into the freezer for 20 minutes or refrigerator for 40 minutes to firm up and get cold. If not using chocolate, skip to Step 8.
- In the meantime, Place the chocolate chips and tahini into a small bowl, melt the chocolate (and tahini) in the microwave for 30 seconds, then stir vigorously, continue in 10 second intervals until the chocolate chips are melted, smooth, and runny.
- Place wax paper, parchment paper, or silicone pads onto a plate or baking sheet. Remove the balls from the fridge or freezer and quickly dunk the balls into the melted chocolate, (the cold bliss balls will instantly start to firm up the warm chocolate), then place onto the wax paper lined plate. Continue until all the balls have been dunked. OR simply drizzle the tops with melted chocolate. Sprinkle with a little flakey sea salt or crushed toasted almonds. Place the plate (or cookie sheet) into the refrigerator (or freezer) to allow the chocolate to continue to firm up, approximately 10 to 30 minutes.
- Once firm, move to an air-tight container, then store them in the refrigerator. They also freeze well.
