Tips for Success:
- Flavor Profile: This Easy Taco Hummus is a beautiful and tasty appetizer. Perfect for your next holiday gathering or potluck. Full of delicious taco flavored goodness pairs well with small diced veggies served with baked tortilla chips.
- Hummus: We used our The Best Hummus. Feel free to use your favorite humus recipe or store bought (oil-free) hummus.
- Regular Chili Powder: Feel free to use your favorite chili powder, just be sure to select a mild one and not one that has a lot of heat to it.
- Nutritional Yeast: The nutritional yeast is optional, but it does add a nice little cheesy hint of flavor.
- Mexican Oregano: Mexican oregano has a slight citrus note to it. It is brighter than regular oregano. You can use either, but if you have Mexican oregano among your spices, use it.
- Serving Ideas: You can mix and match whichever items listed under the serving ideas or simply do not use any of them and opt for veggie sticks.
- Baked Tortilla Chips: Lay the tortilla onto a flat surface and cut in half, then cut each half into thirds for a total of 6 triangles per each tortilla. Place the tortilla triangles into a preheated 350 F oven for 5 to 7 minutes to toast crisp. Watch them carefully to prevent burning. We used eight 6-inch tortilla for a total 48 triangles.
- Make-Ahead: You can create the entire platter, leaving out the tortillas, tomatoes, and jalapenos, cover tightly and then refrigerate. Right before serving add the diced tomatoes and tortilla chips and serve. Refrigerated tomatoes tend to lose their flavor when refrigerated. While you can add the green onions and jalapenos to the platter and refrigerate, green onions can sometimes have a strong scent that builds over time in the fridge. If not covered properly the scent can take over the fridge, but then it also can take over the dish itself when tightly contained. The strong scent of the green onions tends to permeate all the flavors. We suggest leaving them out if you plan to make ahead and refrigerate to serve later. Add right before serving or leave them out completely.
- Table Salt: If using table salt, you should use less table salt than the amount listed in the ingredients as sea salt crystals are larger than table salt crystals. Since table salt crystals are very fine, less table salt is required to season a dish. We would suggest starting with about 1/4 to 1/2 the amount of sea salt listed. You can always add more salt but cannot take it away. We recommend using sea salt as it is less refined than table salt.
Leftovers and Freezing:
Leftovers will generally keep 5 days in the refrigerator. Store in a covered container.
This dish cannot be frozen.

- Large serving platter
