Tips for Success:
- Flavor Profile: This Vegan Big Mac Special Sauce is a delicious Whole Food Plant Based nod to Big Mac Special Sauce. This sauce is bursting with delicious flavor perfect for burgers, tacos, and salad, or just plain dipping wondrousness.
- Amount of Sauce: You can easily cut the recipe in half for a smaller amount if just using for a topping on tacos, salads, or burgers.
- Halved-Ingredients:
- ¼ cup [raw] cashews
- 1 Tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
- 1 Tablespoon distilled white vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon low-sodium vegetable broth *
- 1 Tablespoon reduced-sodium tamari *
- 2 Tablespoons tahini
- 2 to 3 Tablespoons water
- Halved-Spice/Herb Ingredients:
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon sweet paprika
- ½ teaspoon dried ground mustard powder
- Pinch to ½ teaspoon sea salt (+/-) *
- Sea Salt: Please adjust the sea salt based upon your family’s sea salt preferences and/or based upon dietary needs.
- Table Salt: If using table salt, you should use less table salt than the amount listed in the ingredients as sea salt crystals are larger than table salt crystals. Since table salt crystals are very fine, less table salt is required to season a dish. We would suggest starting with about 1/4 to 1/2 the amount of sea salt listed. You can always add more salt but cannot take it away. We recommend using sea salt as it is less refined than table salt.
Leftovers and Freezing:
Leftovers will generally keep 4 to 5 days in the refrigerator. Store in a covered air-tight container.
This sauce can be frozen. However, the dressing can get watery if frozen.
Pantry Products:
- Tamari: We used San J Tamari Soy Sauce, Gluten Free, Reduced Sodium. You can substitute the tamari with reduced sodium soy sauce, Braggs Liquid Aminos, or Braggs Coconut Liquid Aminos. We recommend using reduced-sodium products.
- Vegetable Stock: We use Pacific Organic Low Sodium Vegetable Stock. We love this brand because it is Whole Food Plant Based compliant, as it does not contain MSG, has no oil, and does not contain any highly-processed ingredients. Feel free to use your favorite vegetable broth.
- Sea Salt: Please adjust the sea salt based upon your family’s sea salt preferences and/or based upon dietary needs.Â
Kitchen Equipment:
- Food processor
