Tips for Success:
- Flavor Profile: These Big Mac Smashed Lentil Tacos are the Whole Food Plant Based nod to the popular TikTok Smashed Big Mac Tacos. Delicious and full of fun, these healthy tacos are full of Big Mac flavors without the guilt.
- Oven Option: If you prefer to heat them in the oven so that they are all done at the same time, then simply preheat the oven to 400 F. Lay the folded taco onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until hot, flipping once half-way through. The heating methods for this recipe is very forgiving, either stovetop or oven.
- Spices: The beauty of this recipe is that you can taste the taco mixture while you are making it to gauge if you want additional spices to suit your own personal preferences.
- Flour Tortillas: Feel free to use your favorite flour tortilla recipe or store brand. Here is a link to our Oil-Free Flour Tortillas
- Vegan Big Mac Burger Dressing: We used our Vegan Big Mac Burger Sauce; however, feel free to use your favorite dressing or purchase store-bought dressing.
- Sea Salt: Please adjust the sea salt based upon your family’s sea salt preferences and/or based upon dietary needs.
- Table Salt: If using table salt, you should use less table salt than the amount listed in the ingredients as sea salt crystals are larger than table salt crystals. Since table salt crystals are very fine, less table salt is required to season a dish. We would suggest starting with about 1/4 to 1/2 the amount of sea salt listed. You can always add more salt but cannot take it away. We recommend using sea salt as it is less refined than table salt.
Leftovers and Freezing:
Leftovers will generally keep 4 to 5 days in the refrigerator. Store in a covered air-tight container.
These tacos can be frozen.
Pantry Products:
- Canned Lentils: We used Delallo Imported Italian Lentils. They come in a 14 oz. can. Most grocery stores carry them in the specialty aisles. If using dry lentils, select lentils that hold their shape after cooking like a brown lentil such as small brown lentils called Pardina lentils. Cook dry lentils separately, adjust time accordingly. If cooking dry lentils, you want to end up with 3 1/3 cups of cooked
- Tamari: We used San J Tamari Soy Sauce, Gluten Free, Reduced Sodium. You can substitute the tamari with reduced sodium soy sauce, Braggs Liquid Aminos, or Braggs Coconut Liquid Aminos. We recommend using reduced-sodium products.
- Sea Salt: Please adjust the sea salt based upon your family’s sea salt preferences and/or based upon dietary needs.
Kitchen Equipment:
- Large skillet (or large baking sheet if baking in the oven)
- Food Processor

Description
These Big Mac Smashed Lentil Tacos are a wholesome Whole Food Plant Based nod to the culinary buzz of TikTok’s Smashed Big Mac Tacos.
Ingredients
Base Ingredients:
- 2 – [ 14.5 oz. cans ] brown lentils, drained, rinsed
- ¼ cup nutritional yeast
- 2 teaspoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon reduced-sodium tamari *
- 1 Tablespoon water (+/-)
Spice/Herb Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- ¾ teaspoon dried ground mustard powder
- Pinch to 1 teaspoon sea salt (+/-) *
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper (+/-)
Other Ingredients:
- 8 [ 6-inch ] flour tortillas *
- Chopped dill pickles
- Shredded lettuce
- Vegan Big Mac Burger Sauce
Instructions
- Place all the Base Ingredients and Spice/Herb Ingredients into a food processor and process off and on just until thoroughly mixed and the lentils are slightly broken down into a paste-like mixture. Do not over process.
- Take a flour tortilla and lay it on a flat surface. Scoop up ¼ cup (up to 1/3 cup – largely dependent upon the size of the tortilla) of the lentil mixture, then lay it onto on half of the flour tortilla and press the mixture to the edges of half of the tortilla, then fold over in half, slightly press together to seal. Repeat until all the tortillas are filled and folded.
- Place a large skillet onto the stove over medium heat, then lay several of the folded tortillas down onto the hot skillet. Heat until the tortillas are golden brown and the inside filling is hot (approx. 3 to 4 minutes), then gently flip over to the other side. Heat until the other side is golden brown (approx. 2 to 3 minutes). Remove and place on a plate. Continue until all the filled and folded tortillas have been browned in the skillet on both sides.
- Serve with Vegan Big Mac Burger Dressing, add some chopped pickles and shredded lettuce.
