Description

Using canned beans (or precooked beans), these Easy Oil Free Refried Beans are full of flavor and probably one of the easiest recipes you will make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 – [ 15.5 oz. cans ] pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • ½ to 1 cup low-sodium vegetable broth *
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice (+/-) (optional)

Spice/Herb Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (+/-)
  • ¾ teaspoon regular chili powder (+/-) *
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon cumin (+/-)
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon sea salt (+/-) *

Instructions

  1. Place all the Ingredients (start on the low-end for the vegetable broth) and Spice/Herb Ingredients into a medium-sized stock pot on the stove over medium heat. Stir well to combine. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Take a potato masher (or immersion blender) and mash until the ingredients reach the desired thickness and level of smoothness. Cook for several minutes to allow the mashed beans and spices to marry.
  3. Check the beans for consistency, add more vegetable broth to reach the desired texture, if needed. Increase spices, if needed, to reach the desired flavor. If any are added, cook for several more minutes to allow the flavors to marry.
  4. Use as a side dish or place inside burritos, tacos, and so much more!
